Zettie Lovell Chamblee, 93, died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Mountain Lakes Medical Center.
She was born June 11, 1916 in Rabun County, GA. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was the widow of the late Fred “Lit” Chamblee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Andrew Lovell and Lillian Lavonia Kirby Lovell and a grandson, Clifford Dennis Chamblee; brothers, Elijah “Lige” Lovell and Lex Lovell; sisters, Pearl Lovell Frady, Lola Lovell Waters, Reppie Lovell Jones, Jeanette “Nettie” Lovell Underwood and five siblings who died in infancy.
Survivors are a son, Fred Dennis Chamblee and daughter-in-law, Rosalyn Nichols Chamblee of the Persimmon Community; a granddaughter, Jill Chamblee of Cornelia; and a grandson, Matthew Chamblee, a student at University of Georgia. There are several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews also surviving.
She lived in Summerville, SC for 18 months and the rest of her life was spent in Rabun County. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who welcomed people into her home with pleasure and always made sure they were fed. She loved taking care of her home, loved gardening, and working outside. She was a cook at the Clayton Elementary School for 17 years. She was a member of the Persimmon Baptist Church for almost 68 years.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Persimmon Baptist Church on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 2 PM with Rev. Richard Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Timpson Creek Cemetery.
