Robert “Bob” Herman Messer, age 88, of Rabun Gap, Georgia, passed away on February 12, 2024.
Bob was born on November 24, 1935, in Marshal, North Carolina, to the late Jesse Messer and late Lucy Brown Messer. Bob spent his days working for General Motors as a union representative in the automotive industry.
Bob was in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked in Chicago for a couple of years. He then moved to Atlanta where he worked at the GM Lakewood Plant for 30 years before retiring in 1988. Bob was an avid golfer who also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his siblings, Jesse Messer, Kenneth Messer, Don Messer, Carroll Messer, Paul Frady, and Annie Sharpe.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Opal Messer; son, Robert G Messer (Lee Ann); sisters, Mary Lou Miller and Fay Reed; grandchildren, Blake Messer and Shane Messer; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends 1:00pm-2:00pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Beck Funeral Home, with the service following at 2:00pm in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Battle Branch Baptist Church or any charity of your choosing.
