John Herron Patrick

John Herron Patrick, age 74, of the Persimmon Community in Clayton, GA passed away on July 14, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born on July 29, 1943 in Atlanta, GA to the late Rabun Neel Patrick and Mildred Parrish Patrick. He is survived by his wife Margaret Somerville Patrick.  The couple married on September 10, 1965 in Atlanta, GA and cherished their 52 years together. 

John is survived by his daughter Bray Patrick-Lake and her husband, Dr. Mark Lake; and grandsons Parrish Lake and Keynes Lake, all of Erie, CO; daughter Alyson Patrick Durke and her husband, Taylor Durke; granddaughter, Sadie Durke, and grandson, Harrison Durke all of Atlanta, GA; brother, Rabun Neel Patrick, Jr. of League City, TX; sister, Lynn Patrick Cobb of Atlanta;  sisters-in-law, Virginia Cochran, Elizabeth Todd and Ginny Patrick, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends, who will greatly miss his humor and wit.

John attended Druid Hills High School in Atlanta, GA and St. Andrews School in Suwannee, TN. He graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity and worked as a regional sales manager for Ameron Corporation for 35 years.  John enjoyed spending time at his family’s cabin on Lake Rabun, tending his trout, and teaching his grandchildren about scuba diving, fishing and marksmanship. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and served on the Board of Directors for Community Pantry located in Rabun County. John was an early champion of the Food 2 Kids program at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia where he received a Volunteer of the Year Award for the Mountain Region.  John served as an Elder at his beloved Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral home on Friday July 20, 2018 from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church with Rev. Don Barber officiating. Reception to follow.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Community Pantry at P.O. Box 1067, Clayton, GA 30525 in memory of John Herron Patrick.
