"Reba" Rebecca (Parker) Speed

“Reba” Rebecca Parker Speed, age 89, of Dillard, Georgia, passed away on December 11, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Reba was born the daughter of the late Boyd  and Eura Ledford Parker in Franklin, NC. She was a devout Christian who read her Bible every day, and was a member of the Baptist faith. In her professional life, Reba worked as a nurse’s aid for 28 years. She also worked with her children in their flower shop, and she also owned a jam and jelly shop. She loved gardening, fishing and camping, and enjoyed time outdoors. She loved to can, crochet and was an avid reader. Reba loved to spend time in flower gardens, and loved her pets dearly.

Reba was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William F. Speed; her second husband, Henry Lee Speed; her son, Gary Speed; her daughter, Janice Speed Free; two brothers, Perry Parker, Boyd Parker Jr.; four sisters, Marie Parker, Mary Bryant, Shirley Carson, Esther White.

Her survivors include her daughter, Linda Speed Legg (Bob), of Asheville, NC; her daughter, Glenda Sue Speed, of Dillard, GA; her son in law, Ervin Free, of Tiger, GA; her grandchildren, Kim Clontz and Justin Free; her great-grandchildren, Jake Clontz, Zack Clontz; step great-grandchildren, Dylan Cobb, Justin Davis; her step great-great grandchildren, Drew Cobb, Emma Grace Davis; a number of nieces and nephews also survive her.

The family will receive friends on Saturday December 15, 2018 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

A funeral will be held on Saturday December 15, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with Bob and Linda Legg officiating.

A committal service will be held at Beck Funeral Home following the service with Rev. James Turpen officiating.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Reba’s memory to; St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN  38105-1942, Rabun Paws 4 Life 261 Boen Creek Rd, Tiger, GA 30576 or your local animal shelter.
