Mary Alvena Hicks Bowers, affectionately known as Dinky, age 100, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on May 2, 2021.
Alvena was born the daughter of the late Joe Robert Hicks and the late Samantha Ridley Hicks on September 6, 1920. She was a graduate of the Tallulah Falls School. Alvena loved to see the flowers in her garden and was an artist when it came to baking cakes. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and liked to play Rummy. She was a big fan of polka music and liked to watch the "Molly B and Big Jo's Polka Show." She enjoyed life, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a Christian and a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Samantha Hicks; her husband, James Fred Bowers; two brothers, Leonard Hicks, Leamond Hicks; five sisters, Ada Hicks, Lavada Welborn, Elvira Owens, Volena Hughes, Velzie Rogers, Vella Mae Potts.
Her survivors include her two daughters, JoElla Bowers Wilson (Steve), of Clayton; Regina Bowers Harden (Ronnie), of Clayton; four grandchildren, Steven Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Candice Hillier, Stephanie Branch; eight great-grandchildren, Bailey Rogers, Cade Rogers, Lydia Connell, Stetson Branch, Wyatt Wilson, Phelan Wilson, Blaze Wilson, Karrigan Wilson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday May 15, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in the Satolah Community.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 15, 2021 at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in the Satolah Community, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Zane Talley officiating. A committal service will be held immediately following to inter her ashes in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Alvena's memory to the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
