Doyle Denver
Phillips
Oct 3, 1940 — Jun 21, 2022
Doyle Denver Phillips of Augusta, Georgia, died on June 21, 2022, at the age of 81. Doyle was born and raised in Murphy, North Carolina, the son of the late Willie Sue and Willie James Phillips. Although he raised his family in Atlanta and Augusta, he treasured his memories of growing up in the Appalachian Mountains.
In addition to his parents, Doyle was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Joan Fountain Phillips, his brother Mack Phillips, and his sisters Brenda Rogers and Jean Boatman.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Phillips; by his daughter Rhonda Loring (Walter) and son Barry Phillips (Stacy); and by two grandchildren, Cooper Phillips (Amanda) and Kendall Phillips. He also is survived by his stepchildren, Lois Ironside and Dean Fountain, as well as siblings Harley Phillips (Tana), Geneva Guest, Diane Swinney and Charles Phillips (Nancy).
Doyle was a loving husband and father who led by example and instilled strong values in his children as he worked hard to support them and help them meet their goals in life. In 1958, he was hired to sweep floors at Sonoco Products Company in Atlanta, and in 1978, he was promoted to Plant Superintendent to start up the Augusta division of Sonoco. He retired from the company in 1995 after 37 years of service.
In his later years, he was richly blessed by his marriage to Brenda, and few things brought him more pleasure than time with his grandchildren. Cooper and Kendall were fortunate to have "Grandpa" in their lives into young adulthood.
The family will receive visitors at Beck Funeral Home, 898 Highway 441 S, Clayton, GA, on Friday, June 24, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
