Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Ambrous Oliver Findley Sr. and Jessie Ruth Harris, sister Jayme G. Strickland, brother-in-law Spencer Murphy, and nephew Richard "Dicky" Strickland.

Butch attended the University of South Florida and obtained a B.A. in Psychology. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Hospital Corpsman. Butch was a beloved physician in Rabun County who served the community for forty-two years, first at Ridgecrest Hospital, and later joined the team at MedLink Rabun. His career was truly a fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Butch also delighted in spending time with his family and friends, whether those experiences involved new adventures or the comforts of home.
