William Griffin Jeffrey, age 91, of Dillard, Georgia, passed away on April 19, 2020.
William was born the son of the late James Robinson Jeffrey and Helen Ella Griffin Jeffrey on April 21, 1928 in Battle Creek, Michigan. William attended school in Battle Creek and also in Hialeah-Miami Springs, Florida. He graduated from Albion College in Albion, MI and Wayne State University College of Medicine in Detroit. William went on to practice medicine in St. Petersburg, FL and retired from Met Life as Vice President and Medical Director of Southeastern U.S. in Tampa. He was a physician for the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Club for twenty five years and part owner of their minor league team in St. Petersburg. William enjoyed auto racing and was associate director of the twelve hours of Sebring race for thirty five years.
He and his wife Karmel spent several summers in the Dillard area. They loved the mountains and the people and moved here when he retired in 1999. They were members of the Dillard Methodist Church .
He is survived by his wife of thirty five years, Karmel Jeffrey; two sons, William Jeffrey Jr. and Connery H. Duncan (Karen); two grandchildren, Connery Jr. and Katelynn Grace.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in William's Memory to the Boy Scout Troop 6 1004 Rainey Mountain Road Clayton Ga 30525, the Mountain City Methodist Church PO Box 305 Mountain City, Georgia or the Rabun County Library 73 Jo Dotson Circle Clayton, GA 30525.
In order to safeguard our community due to the current crisis our nation is facing, a private service will be held. A memorial service may be held in the future.
