James Charles Burnes III, a resident of Lakemont, GA was retired from Land Management of Georgia Power Co. Mr. Burnes was born in Macon, GA and grew up in Sparta, GA. Mr. Burnes was an Eagle Scout. He attended Young Harris College and the University of Georgia. He served in the United States Air Force in Zweibrucken, Germany. He received two Bachelor of Science Degrees from Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA. Mr. Burnes was a member of Clayton Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Northeast Chapter of the Georgia Power Ambassadors. Charlie spent his time loving his family, telling stories and spoiling his grandchildren and his dogs. Through his love of hunting and fishing, he ministered and witnessed to many people. He never met a stranger and he never failed to ask "Do you know Jesus?"
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, James Charles Burnes Jr. and Marie Bateman Burnes and one brother, Billy Reynolds.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Gardner Burnes, of Lakemont; a sister, Hallie Burnes Ellerbee and brother-in-law, Corkey Ellerbee, of Milledgeville; a sister-in-law, Lathia Reynolds, of Covington, GA; a daughter, JaCee Marie Burnes Trpik and son-in-law, Joseph R. Trpik Jr., of Chicago, IL; a son, Brannon Gardner Burnes and daughter-in-law, Summer Lea Burnes of Sylva, NC; three grandchildren, Autumn Marie Burnes, Robert Gardner Burnes and Emma Lea Burnes, of Sylva, NC.
The family will receive friends on Saturday February 22, 2020 at the Clayton Baptist Church from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 22, 2020 at the Clayton Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with Rev. Joey Thompson and Rev. Jason Ellerbee officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Mr. Burnes's memory to the Clayton Baptist Church or to the Clayton Baptist Church's H.I.M Ministry 87 S. Church Street Clayton, GA 30525 or the Georgia Baptist Children's Home P.O. Box 329, Palmetto, GA 30268.
