James lived a life marked by caring, dedication, and the gift of laughter.

James Ira Justus, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on October 5, 1939, James lived a life marked by caring, dedication, and the gift of laughter.

James was devoted to his family, who were the center of his life. He is survived by his cherished wife, Betty Dodgins Justus, whose companionship and partnership were steadfast throughout their life together. James is also lovingly remembered by his sons, Benson Justus and Richard Justus, and his daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Justus. His family was his pride and joy, and he took great pleasure in their happiness and well-being.

James was predeceased by his father, Issac Benson Justus, and his mother, Mary McDowell Justus, along with siblings Doug Justus, T.C. Justus, Savannah Wilborn, Alene Church, Virginia Turner, and Juanita Hooper. The memory of those who went before him was always present in his heart, and their legacies live on through the stories and love he shared with others.

Throughout his life, James touched the lives of many—not just within his family but also in his community and at his place of work. He spent his career at Rabun Mills, Furit, a commitment that reflected his enduring work ethic. Beyond his professional responsibilities, James took immense satisfaction in helping his wife care for children, whom he loved deeply. His nurturing spirit and tireless dedication stand as a testament to the depth of his character.

Known for making people laugh, James had a unique talent for uplifting those around him. His wit and warmth brightened countless days, leaving many with fond memories and smiles that endure. Passionate about gardening and camping, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life and cultivated both plants and friendships with equal care. Above all, James was someone who devoted himself to caring for people, offering a comforting presence and a helping hand to anyone in need.

Family, friends, and all whose lives were enriched by James are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his life. A visitation will be held on July 8, 2026, from 10:00am until 11:00am at Beck Funeral Home, 898 Hwy 441 South, Clayton, GA 30525. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel. Following the service, James will be laid to rest at Rabun Memory Park Cemetery, 5 Strawberry Lane, Tiger, GA 30576.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church, PO Box 14, Tiger, Georgia 30576.
