Judson "Bill" Billy
Passmore
May 9, 1936 — Nov 11, 2025
Judson Billy "Bill" Passmore, 89, of Dillard, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on November 11, 2025. Bill was born on May 9, 1936, in Nantahala, North Carolina, to Eula Morgan and Troy Passmore. He was the oldest of ten children, a role he carried with quiet strength and steadfast love throughout his life.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Cope Passmore; and siblings Carol "Peanut" Passmore, Carolyn Winfrey, Joyce Mashburn, Clint Passmore, and Coyt Passmore. He is survived by his brothers Clyde Passmore, Gary Passmore, and Kenneth Passmore, and his sister Glestie Young.
In 1962, Bill married Barbara Cope, and together they raised two daughters, Sonya Cousineau and Paula Ledford. Bill also leaves behind grandchildren Maleah (Jayson) McConnell, Mariah (Zach) Crow, Madison (Kody) Dills, and Renee Whitmire, as well as seven great-grandchildren who lit up his days: Adrian, Sawyer, McCrae, Terrora, Azalea, Opaline, and River.
After graduating from Nantahala High School, Bill began his career in High Point, North Carolina, driving a truck for a furniture company. From 1959 to 1962, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a typist for the motor corps. Following his military service, he worked for Burlington Industries as a mechanic, owned and operated the Dillard Superette, drove the Scaly Mountain bus route for the Rabun County School System, and later served as a rural mail carrier for both the Dillard and Otto Post Offices, retiring from the U.S. Postal Service.
Bill was a man of service—both to his family and his community. He devoted himself as the primary caregiver for his wife, Barbara, and faithfully served as a deacon and teacher at Betty's Creek Baptist Church. He could often be found supporting his grandchildren at ball games, school programs, and community events. He loved the simple pleasures of life: riding the backroads, attending gospel singings, and cheering on local teams.
Bill's life was a testament to faith, family, and quiet kindness. His steady presence and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of his life will be held at Betty's Creek Baptist Church on Thursday, November 13, 2025, with fellowship to follow at Cope Hall.
