Kirby Ivern
Butler
Nov 30, 1949 — Nov 30, 2022
Tiger
Kirby Ivern Butler, 73, of Tiger, Georgia, went to his heavenly home on November 11, 2023, with his loving family at his side.
Kirby was born October 8, 1950, in Lumberton, North Carolina, son of the late Duncan Ivern Butler and the late Nina Lucille Nunnery Butler. After high school, Kirby went to work in theater management and later in public safety. He began his career in public safety for the Hall County Fire Department before becoming a paramedic and an EMT instructor. He returned to school for computer programming, writing the trip report software for ambulances and traveled the state training other departments. In 2014, he was chairman of Dekalb County Fire/Rescue during his almost forty-year tenure with Dekalb EMS.
Kirby was a loving husband who loved and doted on his wife, Sue. Kirby never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to people. He went every day with his wife to the Rabun County Senior Center, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of all the people there, and the ladies on staff spoiled him just a little.
Kirby was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church for many years. Awana was the highlight of his week, and he served as a Sunday school teacher and member of the men's Breakfast prayer group.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Butler; stepdaughter-in-law, Tracy Maloney; and grandson, James York.
Kirby is survived by his loving wife, Susan Warren Butler; sister, Cathy Cody (Jerry); two daughters, Jennifer Butler and Jessica Mauck (Stephen); stepdaughter, Tammy Jones (Mark); two stepsons, Tommy Maloney (Kippi) and Todd Maloney; seven grandchildren, Lanie Prather, Mikayla Mathis, Haley Smith, Stephen Mauck, Devon Mauck, Delilah Mauck, and Joseph Mauck; seven step-grandchildren, Bailey Maloney, Riley Maloney, Ashley Griffin (Will), Jordan Pollard (Dwight), Ezra Jones, Thomas Maloney, and Ashton Maloney; and five great-grandchildren, Reid, Emma, Adler, Avery, and Clara.
The family received friends at Liberty Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM. A funeral service followed at 3:00 PM with Derrick Moody, Rev. Will Griffin, and Rev. Scott Cates officiating.
The family asks in Lieu of flowers donations be made to Rabun Paws4 life at 261 Boen Creek Road, Tiger, GA, 30576 or Amedisys Foundation (Please note on donation "Toccoa Hospice Location", and "in memory of Kirby Butler") at 3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 in memory of Kirby Butler.
