Obituary

Mary Carolyn McVicker, age 76, passed away on January 2, 2026. Carolyn was born in Fort Benning, Georgia on July 18, 1949.

Carolyn was a small business owner for many years, making and selling remarkable miniature food and beverage items for doll houses. She traveled the country attending conventions and was a lifetime member of the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts. She was also a district director of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, where she played an instrumental role in establishing a new chapter in Franklin, North Carolina. Additionally, Carolyn was a devoted attendee at Clayton Baptist Church for many years.

Carolyn had a soft spot for animals. Throughout her life, she owned several dogs, all of which were well taken care of and loved. Carolyn liked to knit, sew and watch soap operas. For many years, Carolyn accompanied her husband, JP, to antique cars shows, even going as far as Hershey, Pennsylvania to attend the Eastern Fall Nationals. She was an excellent cook as well as a charitable woman who gave generously to help others. She was well liked by all who knew her. Carolyn loved her family. She spent several years as a leader for Girl Scouts when her daughter was young. Carolyn and her husband took their grandchildren on unforgettable cross-country trips in their motor home. Carolyn dutifully cared for her husband when he was sick and, in turn, he cared for her until the very end.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, William Welsh and Ida Ruth Edwards Welsh; and brothers, Tommy Welsh and Mike Welsh.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, JP McVicker; daughter, Veronica Fretwell (Brandt); brother, Ronald Welsh; four grandchildren, Spring, Destinee, Breeze, and Rebel; and eight great-grandchildren.
