Mary Lorraine Smith, 68, of Clayton, Georgia, went home to be with Jesus on October 14, 2026. She was born on July 3, 1958, in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Lorraine's life was centered around two things she held most dear: her love for Jesus and her love for her family. Her faith was a beautiful part of who she was, and she never missed an opportunity to share the love of Jesus, offer a prayer, or speak an encouraging word. She had a heart full of compassion and a special way of making those around her feel loved, valued, and cared for.
Lorraine found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and making memories with those she loved. She enjoyed traveling, and if you ever asked her where she wanted to go, the answer was almost always the beach. It wasn't necessarily the destination that mattered most to her, but the people she shared those moments with.
Her children will forever cherish the unconditional love she gave so freely. Through her warm hugs, countless words of affirmation, and thoughtful little gifts, she never let them forget how deeply they were loved. Her grandchildren will always treasure the special memories of movie nights, sleepovers, and Nana's cookies. She had a beautiful gift for making even the simplest moments feel special.
Lorraine's love extended far beyond her immediate family. She had a generous heart, a kind spirit, and a genuine desire to bring happiness and comfort to others. Whether through a prayer, an encouraging word, or a simple act of kindness, she touched the lives of so many. Loving others wasn't just something Lorraine did; it was who she was.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Alan Smith; her son, Toby Darnell; her daughters, Tasha Brown (Zachary) and Tiffany English (Justin); her beloved grandchildren, Carly Darnell, Nathan Darnell, Natalie Darnell, Alexander McGill, Grayson English, Līanna English, and Tatum English; and her precious great-grandchild, Paxtynn Shackleford. She is also survived by her brother, Lex Darnell, and sisters, Leslie Darnell and Landie Watts.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Albert Darnell and Patricia Darnell; her brother, Lang Darnell; and her sister, Louise Darnell.
Lorraine leaves behind a legacy far greater than words can express. Her greatest gift to this world was the love she poured into the lives of those around her. She taught her family, not only through her words but through the way she lived, what it means to love deeply, give generously, and walk faithfully with Jesus.
While our hearts ache at the thought of life without her, we find comfort in knowing that the faith she held so dearly has now become sight. She is home with the Savior she loved and spoke of so often.
We will miss her hugs, her prayers, her voice, and the countless little ways she made us feel loved. But most of all, we will miss simply having her here with us.
If love alone could have kept her here, she would have lived forever.
Until we meet again, we will carry her love in our hearts, her lessons in our lives, and her memory in everything we do.
Well, done, good and faithful servant. — Matthew 25:23
