Virginia Lee (Hancock) Jones, born on March 17, 1935, in Cartersville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, in Lakemont, Georgia. She lived a life defined by devotion to family, strength of faith, and thoughtful connection to those she loved.
Virginia’s educational journey began in her hometown, where she completed high school. Early in life, she chose the noble path of homemaking—a calling she embraced with commitment, warmth, and a sense of purpose. As a loving mother and grandmother, Virginia devoted herself to nurturing her family, always making their well-being her foremost priority.
Her faith was the foundation upon which she built her life. An active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lakemont, Georgia, Virginia was known for her strong spiritual convictions. She deeply valued her church community and participated faithfully, becoming a prayer warrior whose concern for others extended far beyond her immediate circle. Her prayers and support touched countless lives, and she remained steadfast in her desire to lift the spirits of friends and family alike.
Virginia possessed a tender heart and a unique ability to maintain close connections, often staying in touch with family and friends by phone. These gestures, simple yet profound, reflected her enduring care and attentiveness to those around her. Her home was a haven of kindness, and her thoughtful conversations were cherished by all who knew her.
She adored desserts of all kinds—especially chocolate—and was captivated by the beauty of hummingbirds and the symbolism of lighthouses.
Among her many joys, Virginia had an affinity for life’s small pleasures. Virginia is survived by her son, Jeffrey Leon Jones (Cheryl) of Donnybrook, North Dakota, and her daughter, Kelly Jones Sanders of Lakemont, Georgia. Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren—Jason Jones (Malissa), Travis Sanders (Katlin), Casey Jones (Grace), Racheal Kranz (Nick), and Cody Sanders (Madison)—and great-grandchildren, Brighton Sanders and Blakely Sanders.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Lois Houck, and granddaughter, Jessica Jones.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on June 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, located at 6467 Highway 441, Lakemont, GA 30552. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location with burial following at Liberty Community Cemetery.
