Vivian Ruth (Clowney)
Utley
Jul 12, 1944 — Sep 7, 2026
Clayton, Georgia
Vivian Ruth (Clowney) Utley, age 82, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 12, 1944, to the late Russell Clowney and Mattie Irene (Hall) Clowney.
Vivian devoted much of her life to teaching, a profession she truly loved. Over the years, she taught and inspired countless students and was honored as Teacher of the Year on numerous occasions. She was known for her firm but loving approach, offering her students plenty of “tough love” while always encouraging them to work hard, believe in themselves, and do their best. She left a lasting impression on generations of students and earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues and community.
Vivian had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making people feel that they mattered. She took a genuine interest in others, loved hearing their stories, and had a way of making people feel seen and cared for. Her warmth, wit, and strength endeared her to many.
In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Elizabeth Whitcomb.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Utley (Ruth Henry) and Jeff Utley (Julie); and her grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren, Evalyn, and Russell.
There is no service planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, Vivian’s family asks that you honor her memory in a way she would have appreciated: tell someone you care about that you love them and give them a big hug. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation would also be welcomed.
Beck Funeral Home, in Clayton, Georgia, is in charge of the arrangements and is honored to serve the family of Vivian Utley. If there are any questions, please call 706-782-9599. An online Memorial Register Book is available at www.beckfuneralhome.com.
