Barbara Miller Treanor, age 99, Lakemont, resident since 1988, passed away peacefully at home on February 15, 2023.
Born in Dalton, MA to Jasper and Ina Miller, she is survived by her son, Edward Treanor IV (Pam) Olympia,WA, daughter, Penny Bradley (Jim) Lakemont, daughter-in law, Leslie Treanor, Woodlands, TX, grandchildren, Don Treanor (Norina), VA, Mark Treanor, NC, Stephen Treanor (Kim),CO, Kimberley Treanor, NY, Glenn Bradley(Kari) WY, John Bradley (Emma), VA, David Treanor, VA, Barbara Hilson (Jabe) Lakemont, Michael Treanor (Suin),CA. Nieces, Lyn Voerman (Lou), Charlotte (Mike) 12 Great grand children, a number of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Don Treanor and son Richard Treanor.
She was an advocate for girls and volunteered for many years with Girls Clubs of America also serving on The Girls Club national board of directors. She taught dog obedience training founding obedience training clubs in Schenectady New York Birmingham Alabama and Wilmington North Carolina. She was a founding member of Mountain Chapel Methodist Church in Birmingham Alabama where she played the Organ for many years. She retired as secretary of the English Department at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington in 1987 when she and Don moved to Rabun County. She was an active member of Clayton First United Methodist Church, and of the Clayton Women's Club. She loved Rabun County which reminded her and Don of their childhood in the Berkshires of western MA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date at Clayton First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief UMCOR or Clayton First United Methodist Church Endowment.
