Betty Jo Mitchell Gibby

Mrs. Betty Jo Mitchell Gibby, 91, passed away February 17, 2019 at her residence. She lived most of her life in Habersham County with her husband of 71 years raising their six children.

Betty Jo was born December 7, 1927 to John Rockaway  Mitchell and Elzia Adaline McCall Mitchell in Scaly Mountain, NC and was raised in Clayton, GA.

Betty Jo enjoyed being outdoors throughout her life, especially camping. She loved to garden, and spending time canning the vegetables that she grew.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents were, her husband, Creal Gibby; four brothers, Thomas Mitchell, J.R. Mitchell, Douglas Mitchell, Lloyd Mitchell; four sisters, Hilda Hopper, Patsy Alley, Blondine Barron, Hazel Kilby.

Her survivors include, her children, Lisa Free (Justin), of Tiger, GA, Autry Gibby (Christy), of Mount Airy, GA, Brenton Gibby (Alene), of Galt, MO, Brenda Webb (Larry), of Toccoa, GA, Cheryl Payne (Terry), of Martin, GA, Audia Scott (Dennis), of Clarkesville, GA; two sisters, Beverly Mason, of Clayton, GA and Marilyn Ballew, of Clayton, GA; ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren also survive her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday February 20, 2019 at the Beck Funeral Home from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 20, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Beck Funeral Home Chapel and Rev. James Turpen officiating.

Burial will follow at the Antioch Baptist Church in Mount Airy, GA with Jim Nixon officiating.
