Brenda Kay Jones of Clayton entered into rest on March 2, 2023, at North East Georgia Medical Center
after a brief illness.
She was born in Clayton, GA, on November 28, 1948, the third of four children to Ira Dean and Lorene
McKay Jones. Brenda graduated from Rabun County High School in 1966, received a Bachelor of Science
in Education from Georgia College at Milledgeville in 1970, and a Masters of Education from North
Georgia College in 1978.
Brenda was a teacher at Toccoa Elementary in Toccoa, Georgia, for over 30 years. While living in Toccoa,
she was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and served as their Activities Coordinator for
several years. After her retirement, she returned to Clayton and provided loving care for her parents.
She became a member at Clayton Baptist Church in 2006 and was an active member of the Women's
Missions, Ideal Fidelis, and Friendship Sunday School Class. Additionally, she served as a church
secretary for several years.
Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Ira Dean Jones, and mother, Lorene McKay Jones.
She is survived by her brother Marshall (Merietta) Jones of Lakemont, GA, brother Eddie (Linda) Jones of
Wiley, GA, sister Sheryl Flaherty-Irwin of Martinez, GA, and her loyal companion Coco. She is also
survived by her nieces: Kayla (Josh) Flaherty Seymour of Atlanta, GA, Megan (Cody) Harris of Griffin, GA,
Amy (Tim) Cotton of Winder, GA, and Tina (John) Affolter of Bradenton, FL, and nephews Patrick
(Kelleigh) Flaherty of Panama City, FL, and Jeff Jones of Eastanollee, GA. She leaves behind four great-
nephews and six great-nieces.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Beck Funeral Home in Clayton.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 - 1:30 PM. Interment will be at the Tiger Cemetery
following the service. Memorials may be made to the Anita Roper Circle Missions group at Clayton Baptist
Church in Clayton 87 South Church Street Clayton Georgia 30525.
