Carla (Schlitz) Brown Obituary

Carla Schlitz Brown passed away November 26, 2024 with her loving family by her side.

Carla Schlitz Brown was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, where she grew up surrounded by the love of her cousins Gene, Mike, Cindy, and Debbie Gilbert. She attended Georgia State University, earning her degree in primary education, and began her teaching career in Gwinnett County. It was during that time that she met and married the love of her life, Robert Waring Brown. After several joyful years in Atlanta, they decided to move to Rabun County, a place they cherished for its beautiful Lake Burton, where they often enjoyed water skiing on their days off.

Carla was a dedicated and passionate teacher at Clayton Elementary, where she taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades throughout her career. She had an incredible memory for every student she ever taught and was committed to staying relevant in her field, earning both her Masters and Six-Year degree in Education. Even after retirement, Carla continued to contribute to the education community by helping build out the afterschool program and teaching for several more years.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was an active member of Timpson Presbyterian. Carla was also known for her culinary talents, delighting friends and family with her delicious food and cherished recipes. Her home was always open, and no one ever left hungry. She loved nothing more than poring over a new cookbook and trying out new recipes with her loved ones.

However, Carla's greatest joy was being Nana to her four grandchildren - Vivienne (9), Shelby (8), Rhys (7), and Georgia (5). She never hesitated to jump in the car and drive to Charleston to be present for every milestone in their lives.

Carla's smile and spirit were infectious, and she made friends easily, never knowing a stranger. While we cannot imagine life without her, we find comfort in knowing she is now home with her heavenly father, reunited with her family in heaven, especially her father Carl John, who passed in the Korean War before she was born.

Carla is survived by her husband, Robert Brown; children, Patrick Brown (Emily) and Corley See Pearse; and grandchildren, Shelby Brown, Georgia Brown, Vivienne Pearse, and Rhys Pearse.

The family will receive friends Saturday December 7, 2024 at Beck Funeral Home from 12:00 until 1:00. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 in the Chapel of Beck Funeral Home with Rev. Travis Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Timpson Presbyterian Cemetery after the funeral.
