Carolyn Sue Dowdle Chastain, 72, of Dillard, GA, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 16, 2025. She is safe in the arms of Jesus but will be greatly missed by her family who loved her dearly

She was born in Macon County to the late Plenny Earl and Launa Norris Dowdle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her seven brothers and two sisters. Carolyn was very involved with her church, Coweeta Baptist, and loved the Lord. She was a Sunday School teacher, church clerk, VBS helper, and served on the social committee. When she was not helping others, cooking or canning; she loved to read, cross stitch, and sew. Family was very important to her and spending time with them was what mattered most to her.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Leroy “Roy” Chastain; sons: Jamie Chastain (Jennifer) of Dillard, GA, Michael Chastain (Emily) of Rabun Gap, GA, Kenny Chastain (Kim) of Franklin, NC; sisters: Nell Goforth, Louise Williamson, Marie Brabson, Pauline Stiwinter; and seven grandchildren; Bailey, Luke , Ben, Cale, Beth, Kaylee, and Koda. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 19th at Macon Funeral Home from 6-8pm. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 20th at Coweeta Baptist Church at 11am. Rev. Keith Ashe, Rev. Davis Hooper, and Rev. Marty Kilby will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Coweeta Baptist Church Building Fund.
