Douglas Collier Robinson Obituary
Douglas Collier Robinson, age 77, passed away on September 8, 2025. Douglas was born July 2, 1948, in Rabun County to the late Parker Robinson and late Zura Giles Robinson. He grew up with a love of the outdoors and found joy in the simple things that brought people together. He loved being on the ballfield with his brothers and other teammates that felt like family. He could often be found at the local pool hall on main street or Herbie’s telling a joke or a big tale about something that would have the entire room in laughter. His sense of humor and strong personality made him a favorite companion, whether on the ballfield, in the woods, or around the table. He was a loyal family member and friend to all of those who knew and respected him.
As a young man, Doug proudly answered the call to serve his country. He was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. His bravery, commitment, and sacrifice were a source of pride to his family. He earned two Purple Hearts during his time of service while stationed in Korea. In his earlier years, Doug did not share a lot about his time in the military but he talked about the friends he made and served with as a proud veteran for his country. Following his military service, Doug returned home and built a life grounded in hard work, and commitment to his family. He worked in the construction field most of his life and carried on his passion for the outdoors, often taking Parker (father) on fishing and hunting trips. As Doug retired and got older, a few of his favorite things to do to pass time included riding around to visit other veterans, watching Gunsmoke, Judge Judy, Rabun County Wildcats and Georgia Bulldog football. However, his most favorite was visiting the Rabun County Rec. Dept. to watch his great-nephew JP Robinson on the baseball field. He talked about how watching him on the field filled his memories of the good times with his brothers.
When Doug attended church, he would visit Blue Heights Baptist or the Head of Tennessee to listen to his respected preacher. Doug will be remembered not only as a proud veteran, but also a man who loved time with all his family members, and lived with honor.
In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by siblings, Robert Robinson, Thomas Robinson, Michael Robinson and Lillian Robinson. Doug is survived by his son, Douglas Robinson Jr., and brothers, Jerry Robinson Sr., Roger Robinson and many nieces and nephews.
