Fred Henderson Barnes, age 78, of Scaly Mountain, North Carolina passed away on August 14, 2023.
Fred was born on November 22, 1944 in Scaly Mountain, North Carolina, to the late Albert Barnes and late Bessie Dryman Barnes. Fred found a career doing something he loved as a firefighter and EMT in Scaly Mountain and Sky Valley, as well as working for himself in the construction industry. As a past member of the Blue Ridge Lodge 435, he found that being a Mason provided a place to practice charity and goodwill. This desire to do good was also expressed through his involvement as a member at First Assembly of God in Highlands, North Carolina.
Fred enjoyed truck driving and listening to music. It was all the better if he had the pleasure of traveling with his loving wife, Jayne Johnson Barnes.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by wife, Jayne Johnson Barnes, and siblings, Jim Barnes, Louis Barnes, Jack Barnes, Sue Hicks, Carol Frady, Judy Ensley and Shirley Bolick.
He is survived by siblings, Jane English and Diane Lesley, children, Matthew Barnes, Richard Barnes and Gail Marlar, grandchildren, Brittany, Casey, Bennett, Paul, Kaitlan, Christopher, Bryant, Kelli, Carol and John, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family of Fred Barnes would like to thank Gina Goembel and Tami Norris for the excellent, loving care they provided for Fred.
