Gary Dee York, 59 of Lakemont, GA entered into the open arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 25, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. Gary was the ultimate victor in the battle and was reunited with his wife Missy for eternity.
Gary was born on December 23,1962 to J.P. and LaMerle York of Chattanooga, TN. Gary graduated from Independent Christian School in 1981. After graduating Gary enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for 13 years. After Gary took early retirement from the US Navy he moved to Lakemont, GA at which time he established Lakemont Hoist and Welding, He has served the people of Lake Rabun, Lake Burton and Lake Seed for more than 25 years with his business. He was known around Rabun County by his many colored shirts that read “Need a Lift”. In 1989 Gary met the love of his life Missy McDaniel in Norfolk, VA while in the US Navy and they were married in June 1990 in Norfolk. Gary and Missy went on to have 2 beautiful girls whom they absolutely adored Katie and Colby. Gary enjoyed taking cruises with family and friends and visiting the Northwest GA wineries on fall weekends. Gary was very active in the little league community. He umpired both softball and baseball for over 20 years and his umpiring dream came true when he umpired the softball Little League World Series in 2017 in Portland, OR.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife Missy York, his dad J.P. York, and his beloved aunt Gail Morton.
He is survived by his daughters Katie York (Daniel Wilson), Colby Robinette (Thomas Robinette), mother LaMerle York, brother Darrell York (Susan York), sister Darla Prichard (Jeff Prichard), grandsons Rhett and Rylan Robinette, and many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gary was a member of Battle Branch Baptist Church.
We invite anyone who would like to join us in celebrating the wonderful life Gary lived and the legacy he has left behind in a memorial service that will be held at Battle Branch Baptist Church in Clayton, GA on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donation be made to the Rabun County Little League in which scholarships will be set up in honor of Gary York for the future little leaguers of Rabun County.
