George Lee Obituary

George Webster Lee, age 91, of Mountain City, Georgia passed away on September 15, 2022.

 

George was born the son of the late Leon Lee and the late Maybell Rayfield Lee on April 21, 1931. He grew up in Vincent, Alabama where he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life in 1953, the late Helen Oliver Lee, before moving to Mountain City, Georgia.   In his professional life he worked as a Steamfitter of the UA 72 Union. In his work with the union, he traveled all over the United States. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Steamfitter’s UA 72 Local Union. He was a master mason and 32 degree Scottish Rite, a member of Duluth Lodge 480, Duluth, Georgia. He enjoyed being outside, working in his yard and bird hunting.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen Oliver Lee; three brothers, Thomas Lee, Howard Lee, Hubert Lee; his sister, Odell Smith.

 

His survivors include his son, Robert E. Lee (Terri), of Washington State; his daughter, Susan Benfield (Ed), of Mountain City, Georgia; his sisters, Ozell Reinhardt, of Alabama; OlaBell Wallis, of Alabama, Addie Lou Jones, of Florida, Arstine Nicewonder, of Florida, Mary Jarrell, of Georgia; two grandchildren, Lyndsay Summers (Bruce), of Washington, Anthony Benfield, of North Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Brezy Lee Summers, of Washington, Will Campbell, of South Carolina, Dominic Benfield, of South Carolina, Billy Joe Benfield, of South Carolina.

 

The family will receive friends on Saturday September 24, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Beck Funeral Home in Clayton, Georgia.

 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday September 24, 2022 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Tim Hunnicutt and Rev. Thomas Burrell officiating.

 

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in George’s memory to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
