He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In high school Harry was a standout gymnast, specializing in the rings and pommel horse. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War Campaign at Fort Bragg, NC for several years. After retiring Harry couldn’t sit still so he continued working as a camp host and as a RV salesman.

Harry always liked building things. He built and raced cars with lifelong friend Charles Scroggs; he went on missions trips in Appalachia, and often volunteered to do repairs at his church. Harry liked building and flying remote controlled airplanes.

Harry and Martha enjoyed camping together. They camped almost every weekend when their boys were young at Lake Lanier or Stone Mountain. In the1970s, their family made a 14-day boat trip in Florida along the Intercoastal Waterway. In retirement he and Martha traveled the east coast from Key West to Canada and made several cross-country trips. Among his family and friends Harry was known as someone with a great wit; he also enjoyed solving puzzles of all kinds.

He was a Christian and a lifelong Methodist. In 2011, Harry was recognized as the Man of the Year at Buford First United Methodist Church.
