Jack "Jackie" Milton Watts Obituary
Jack “Jackie” Milton Watts, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend to many and respected member of the community, passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 22, 1944, to Roy Milton Watts and Arietta Wall.
Jackie was a man of great character, integrity, and strong work ethic. He learned the value of hard work from a young age, which shaped his life and the way he approached every endeavor.
In January of 1966, Jackie married the love of his life, JoAnn Ramey and together they built a beautiful life full of love, faith, and cherished memories. Their marriage was a testament to their enduring commitment and partnership that lasted over 58 years.
Jackie’s life was characterized by hard work, dedication, and a passion for various pursuits. After trying his hand at different career paths and several business ventures, in 1981 he graduated from the Georgia Police Academy. He worked for various law enforcement agencies during his career and retired as a Lieutenant from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office after 28 years of service to the people of Rabun County. His footprint of service can be seen all over Tiger, Georgia, where he called home for most of his adult life. Jackie served the city of Tiger as Mayor from 1984 through 1988 and served the town again as a City Councilman from 2020 until his passing. He was the first Fire Chief for the City of Tiger’s volunteer fire department. Jackie was an ordained minister and an active member of Carver’s Chapel Baptist Church. He was a pillar of the community, who was not only known as a friend, but a mentor to many.
Jackie is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; sons Ricky Watts, Teddy Watts (John Clark); brother Edward Watts, sisters Cynthia Henry, Frankie White; grandchildren Jonathon Watts, Preston Watts, Trent Carver, Sarah Clark, Clinton Taylor; seven great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others who were near and dear to his heart.
Jackie leaves behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. He enjoyed spending time with his family most of all. He was a selfless, God-fearing man who truly lived a life of service. His memory will forever be cherished by his loving family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of sharing in his life's journey.
