He is also survived by his devoted grandparents, Barry and Lynn Varian. Joey leaves behind his cherished aunts and uncle: Jennifer Barthmaier (Jim), Kim Reese (Joe), Steve Varian, and Megan Carmody. He was a beloved cousin to Jimmy (Maria) Stephanie (Matt), Michael (Jessica), Kristy (Greg), Weston (Alyssa), Sydney (Shane) Samantha (Josh), Nicholas (Skylar), Alex, and Kelsey.

Joey was a loyal friend and is survived by his closest companions, Chris and Kimberly Boardman, and many others whose lives he touched.

Joey had an infectious smile and a kind heart, never meeting a stranger. He was an avid golfer, snowboarder, and all around sports enthusiast and fan, but above all, he was the biggest Tennessee Volunteers football fan. He was a preferred walk-on for Tennessee football and, during his time at Walton High School (Marietta, GA) he served as the starting quarterback and captain of the varsity football team while also playing varsity lacrosse.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joey’s honor to FAITH Inc. - Fight Abuse in the Home located in Clayton, GA, or Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA), Honolulu, HI.
