Kathryn Blanche (Mrzlikar) Palmer Obituary
Kathryn B. Palmer (Mrzlikar), 67, of Clayton, GA, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathryn, affectionately known as "Kat," was born on September 2, 1957 in Utica, NY, the last of 4 cherished daughters of Edward Mrzlikar and Carmen (Grenier). She graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School in 1975 and later earned her degree in Human Resources from Utica College and later a Master's Degree in Business Administration Webster University.
During a break from her college journey, Kathryn met her lifelong soulmate, Glenn Palmer, while working at the Knotty Pine restaurant in Old Forge, NY. The two began a life filled with adventure, love, and service. After marrying in September 1980, Kathryn joined Glenn in the U.S. Army, serving for nearly six years. Their military journey took them across the globe, beginning in Korea, where their son Dustyn was born, and then to Georgia where their daughter Chelsea was welcomed into the world. After leaving the Army to focus on raising her children, Kathryn and Glenn continued their travels as a military family. Their adventures included living in Hawaii, Louisiana, and an incredible eight years in Germany. While in Germany, Kathryn and family explored Europe, sipped on gluhwein at Christkindle markets, skied the Alps, and created many lasting memories with her family and friends. Her love for travel and adventure was contagious, and her boundless energy left a lasting impact on everyone she met. After returning to civilian life, Kathryn embraced the role of a devoted mother and wife while building a meaningful career in civil service for the Department of the Army. Her work reflected her unwavering commitment to supporting soldiers and their families. Known for her vibrant personality, Kathryn made friends wherever she went, lighting up every room and captivating others with her storytelling. She was known for her kindness, laughter, and ability to turn any gathering into a lively celebration. A glass of wine and a good story often left those around her enthralled and filled with joy. Kathryn's love for the spirit of Christmas, a reflection of her faith, was evident in her cherished collection of Santa Claus figurines and ornaments, some of which she proudly displayed year-round. She remained connected to her Catholic roots throughout her life and actively participated in military parish communities wherever her travels took her. Her kindness, compassion, and steadfast trust in God embodied the true meaning of the season and provided strength and inspiration, especially during life's challenges. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Mrzlikar and Carmen (Grenier). She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Glenn Palmer; her son Dustyn Palmer and his wife Carly; her daughter Chelsea Lynch and her husband Broc; her beloved granddaughters Savannah and Caroline Lynch; and her loving sisters, Bernice Mrzlikar of Utica, NY, Carol Dodge of Fulton, NY, and Sandy Cataldo and her Husband Peter of Rome, NY.
