Kenneth Gregory Letts Sr. Obituary

Kenneth Gregory Letts, Sr. passed away Tuesday January 14th near his home in Tiger, Ga. He is survived by his 3 children, Kenneth Letts Jr., Dustin (Caroline) Letts, and Tara Letts as well as 6 grandchildren Madison, Kenny, Alfred, Emmy, Lauren, and Madeline.

Born in New York in 1943, Ken and his brother Frederic were best friends from the beginning. They traveled the world with their mother Lura, learned to scuba dive, and shared a love old corvettes and Teacher’s Scotch.

Ken married his wife Linda in New York, moved to Florida, and eventually ended up in Macon, Ga where they raised a family together. He worked for Reserve Life Insurance Company for 13 years before going out on his own selling life and health insurance. Ken loved his family! Between Cub Scout and Girl Scout camping trips, pool parties with Trivial Pursuit, cruises and bus trips with school friends, and running the chains at FPDS high school football games so he could get a front row seat to watch his sons and their friends, Ken always had a big smile on his face. He built a life sized play-house for his daughter in the back yard and wanted a picture of her every day before school. She was always his little girl.

He and Linda raised 3 kids who knew they loved them.

Ken later retired to Tiger, Ga in a rustic cabin that he built himself. He enjoyed the quiet living in the mountains.

Throughout his life, Ken enjoyed riding his motorcycle across the country with friends, skiing in Colorado and Canada, and tailgating at both UGA and Ga Tech football games. He was an avid wood worker and spent many hours making cutting boards for newlywed friends and teaching high schoolers the art of making a wooden reindeer.  Ken and Linda made lifetime friends in Macon with their monthly Supper Club.

Ken was the perfect combination of Bold New Yorker and Sweet Southern Georgia Gentleman. He never met a stranger. He told LOTS of stories (many times more than once or twice or even five times).

Ken had an amazing group of friends in Tiger. He loved to cook anything on the grill and have everyone over for good Southern football. He loved Fried Chicken and could tell you the best place to get it in any town. And don’t forget his love of extra crunchy peanut butter and any flavor of ice cream!

One of his favorite nights of the week was Steak Night with his friend Tanya Coker. Over the last 10 years, they developed a bond and friendship that couldn’t be broken. His kids are very thankful that he had a loving companion here in Tiger.

We would like to thank the many friends, family, caretakers, and doctors in Gastonia, Toccoa, and Clayton that supported us in these last few months.  The phone calls and visits were cherished and Ken knew he was loved!

“Letts Celebrate Ken” is being planned for March 8th, 12-4pm at Stonewall Creek Vineyard, Tiger Georgia
