Martha Julia (Moak) Reeder Obituary
A loving and sweet woman was lost to this world on the morning of Sunday, August 14, 2022. Martha
Julia Moak Reeder was born at home in Lindale, Georgia on September 21, 1938 to Broadus Wray and
Ruby Nelle Lovvorn Moak. She was the youngest of three children and, as such, learned to make her
own path in the wake of her siblings. She loved life, loved to read, and loved to tell her stories. When
her brother, Rodney Lynn Moak and sister, Sylvia Nelle Moak Turner passed on before her, she loved to
share the stories of their childhood adventures and travels together to Europe. She was the last
remaining Moak of her generation, and the remaining family cherished the stories she would tell. She
brought a light into any room!
Julia grew up in a world of fun with the Moaks of Rome, Georgia. They loved to laugh, play music, play
practical jokes, and invent gadgets. She told so many stories about her father writing and playing music,
her Aunt Mae playing any song “by ear” and her Papa Moak pulling pranks. She cherished being rocked
by her father when she was so sick as a child and chasing after her big brother and sister even though
they tried to leave her behind. She could really tell a story and you could see it in your own imagination.
Julia graduated from Rome High School in Rome, Georgia, and became a Radiology Technician. She had
dreams of traveling the globe, and while in California, met the love of her life, John Claude (J.C.) Reeder,
a Tennessee man serving in the United States Navy. He swept her off her feet, and after marrying, they
began an adventure that took them across the country to coastal Navy bases in the states of
Washington, Texas, Virginia, and South Carolina. Toward the end of her time as a Navy wife, the family
moved to Clayton, Georgia where she was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church and worked in the
Radiology Department of Ridgecrest Hospital. After living for many years in Clayton, the family moved to
Macon and Augusta, Georgia, Sarasota, Florida, and Crossville, Tennessee. In 2019, Julia made the move
back to Rabun County where she resided at Cannonwood in Tiger. There, she continued to light up the
dining room with her stories.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, and children Craig Reeder and Marcia
Reeder.
Julia is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Lisa Reeder, grandchildren Laura (Scott)
Waddell and Scott (Darby) Reeder and great-grandchildren Carter Julia Reeder and Webb Waddell all of
Augusta, Georgia. Also surviving are nieces Olivia (Steve) Nichols of Clayton, Jennifer (Patrick) Marcellino
of Mountain Rest, South Carolina and Rhonda Embs of Las Vegas, Nevada, and nephews Rodney Moak,
Jr. of Foley, Alabama, and Richard Turner, Jr. of Clayton. Several great-nieces and great-nephews also
survive. She leaves behind a legacy of love, memories, and stories.
A memorial service will be held at Cannonwood in Tiger on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 1 PM.
