Robert Hugh Clayton passed away unexpectedly on June 13, 2025. He was born in Maplewood, Ohio on April 5, 1934. He grew up working on his family’s farm. He attended Sidney High School in Sidney, Ohio and loved playing the saxophone. He then attended Ohio State University where he received his Master’s Degree in Agronomy. He also served in the US Army for two years.

He loved camping, bluegrass music and everything involving nature. His love of nature brought him to Clayton in 2008. He was a fan of the Appalachian Trail and hiked many parts of it. He never met a stranger and was friend to all. He just received his 50-year pin from the Masonic Lodge. The last four years he enjoyed singing in the choir and serving at St. James Episcopal Church in Clayton. He loved his family and gave us many years of wisdom and happiness.

He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Clinehens (Bernard) of Maplewood, Ohio; his brother, Thomas G. Clayton of Lakeview, Ohio; his three children, Mary Oglesby (Thomas) of Rabun Gap, Georgia, Ann Wilhelm (Alfred) of Port Charlotte, Florida, and his son, Jim Clayton of Clayton, Georgia; his four step-children, Gordon Perkins (Brenda), Pam Kehrt (Jim), Dana Elmore (Richard), and Mary Perkins (Slade).

He is predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Ruth Clayton; first wife, Donna Jeanne Clayton; and second wife, Jean Cagle Perkins.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at St. James Episcopal Church of Clayton, Georgia.
