Robert Paul Murphy Obituary

Robert Paul Murphy Sr., age 61, of Toccoa, Georgia, passed away on November 17, 2024.  

A beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Robert was known for his exceptional craftsmanship and artistic talent, particularly in creating beautiful furniture from mountain laurel. A skilled carpenter, he was capable of building or fixing anything with his hands. For many years, Robert worked at Athens Y Camp, where his presence and hard work were valued by all who knew him.

Robert had a passion for dirt track racing and enjoyed spending time fishing. He cherished life and the simple joys it brought.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Leon Murphy and Buna Mae Burnette Murphy, and his grandson, Michael Carter.

He is survived by his two sons, Robert Paul Murphy II. (Wendy) and Chris Carter (Michelle), both of Toccoa, Georgia; their mother, Sylvia Murphy; four sisters, Renee Maness, Joyce Fultz, Trenna Powers, and Teresa Madrigal; and three grandchildren, Walker Murphy (Karabeth), Shane Carter (Destiny), and Stormy O'Brien (Trevor). He is also survived by his fiancée Cynthia Wilson, her children Kayla Bagwell (Rob), Kristian Crocker (Benji), and her eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Robert’s honor at Athens Y Camp, located at 1000 Athens Y Camp Road, in the lodge on December 6, 2024, at 6:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Athens Y Camp in memory of Robert Paul Murphy Sr.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
