It has come to our attention that there is a scam happening in our community where an individual is impersonating a funeral home employee asking for payment over the phone. They are calling family members by name and stating that they are a member of our staff. This is not the case at all! Please be aware of this scam and if you have any questions or concerns, please call us anytime: (706) 782-9599.

Sara Jean Nichols Murphy, age 76, of Tiger, Georgia, passed away on April 2, 2024.
Jean was born on July 6, 1947 in Clayton, Georgia, to the late James Nichols and late Corine Forester Lunsford Nichols. She worked in the local hospital in the office for a number of years and later served as office manager in a local medical care practice in Clayton. Her most recent employment included working as a caretaker for several homeowners throughout the county.
Jean was an extremely talented pianist and singer. In her high school years- the funeral director would go pick her up from school to play piano for funerals. She also enjoyed singing and sharing the love of Jesus and music with others, and attended many Friday night singings and revivals over the years. She sang duets with George Simmons and her daughter on many occasions. She was a devoted church member and served as pianist for Battle Branch Baptist, Lakemont Baptist and Bethel Baptist Churches.
In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Wade Lester Murphy, her mom, Corine Lunsford and her very special stepfather, Willard “Short” Lunsford. We know she is happy to now be reunited with them all.
Jean is survived by her children, Jason Murphy and Deana Murphy Dunn (Tim); and half sister, Judy Lunsford Nichols. She is also survived by her favorite child, “Penny”(her dog) and has many cousins, nieces and nephews. A very special thanks to Brenda Watkins and Cannonwood for their kindness shown as caretakers.
A visitation will be held 2:00pm-4:00pm on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Flat Creek Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held immediately following the visitation in the Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Reverend Jewell Gaines will be officiating.
Please send any donations in Jean’s Memory to Flat Creek Baptist Church, 1433 Low Gap Road, Lakemont, Georgia 30552.
