Shirley Marland Obituary

We are posting Mrs.Shirley Reed Marland's Obituary on behalf of Clancy- Gernon Funeral Home.
Our loving Mom (Grandma, Great Grandma) was born in Auburn, NY, on September 11, 1930, and went to be with her Lord, March 14, 2023. Mom was 92 (she loved to tell everyone how old
she was)! She died at home after receiving tender care from her daughter Donna for the past 5 years. The best way to describe her is, "She Loved". She loved the Lord. She loved her husband, whom she married on May 30, 1952. She loved her children (grands and greats). She loved her church. She loved to pray. She loved to cook for others. She loved to make pies for her church family, neighbors, hospice office staff and families. She loved to sew. She loved to serve others. She loved to read the Bible. She loved her parents. She loved her brother. She loved her friends. She loved to read. She loved to jog (just kidding). She loved to laugh. She loved, and she was loved.

Mom and Dad served the Lord together through the years. Beginning at Ontario Bible Conference in Os we go, NY. Mom served by sewing new curtains for the dining hall and updating a different cabin each year. Mom enjoyed cooking for church suppers, and in later years, she planned and prepared dinners for missionary candidates for service to foreign countries at (HCJB) Reach Beyond. Mom also enjoyed volunteering with hospice. She helped care for hospice patients and their families after dad's passing. She worked until she was 86.

She will be missed, but all who know the Lord, as she did, will one day be reunited with her in heaven. "What a Day that Will Be"! She will be laid to rest with her husband, Nelson, in Kankakee, IL. She leaves behind (temporarily), her sons, Roger (Sandy), Ken (Carol), and daughter Donna Lanier (Ray). Grandchildren, Chris (Tami, Tate, Reid), Andrew (Alayna, Bo,
Colt, Bryn), Jodi Barber (Jared, Collin, Lauren, Taylor), BJ (Tim), Amy Hughes (Adam, Ryne, Noah, Madison). She was preceded in death by her loving husband (Nelson), her loving parents (Miles and Eva), and loving brother (Charles, Sr.).

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 10 AM - 12 PM at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, 295 Main St., Bourbonnais, IL 60914. The funeral service will follow immediately in the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Joseph Hutcheson of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lakemont, GA, will be officiating.

To honor her memory, donations can be made to Reach Beyond (website: reachbeyond.org), or Ontario Bible Camp (website: ontariobiblecamp.org). "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
