Suzanne Kersey Todd Obituary

Suzanne (“Suzy”) Kersey Todd, after a brief illness, passed away February 12, 2025 at Mountain Lakes Medical Center.   She was born in LaGrange, Georgia February 20, 1943 to the late Oscar Thomas Kersey, Sr. and Augusta Pike Kersey. She was predeceased by a brother, Oscar Thomas Kersey, Jr. She is survived by cousins Adah Hall Hopkins (David and Caroline) Bell Buckle, Tennessee; Alice Hall Nishimo (Tom) of Saint Louis, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Marie Todd Hipp, Dacula, Georgia; Jane Todd Wright (Ronnie), Ellijay, Georgia; six nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and nephews.

Suzanne graduated from LaGrange College with a BS in art education.  Her first teaching assignment was at LaGrange High School, LaGrange, Georgia; she enjoyed teaching in other Georgia schools as well. When she moved to Rabun County in 1977, she taught art to kindergarten through sixth grade students at South Rabun Elementary and Rabun Gap Community School.  While her husband, Charles (deceased) was pursuing his medical degree at American University of the Caribbean, she had the opportunity to teach at Good Hope Country Day School in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.  In 1997, after several years of living away, she and Charles returned to Rabun County and built their home in North Ridge, Tiger, Georgia.  Suzanne loved being surrounded by the mountains. Her generosity and servant heart were well known in the community.   Her constant companion for the past 7 years has been Chipper, her beloved cocker spaniel.  Suzanne was an active member of Tiger Baptist Church.  One of her special gifts was a monthly card ministry for those who were homebound or simply needed a beautiful encouraging note.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, at Tiger Baptist Church, Tiger, Georgia.  A celebration of life service, officiated by Rev. Tim Hunnicutt will follow, with interment at Rabun Memory Park.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the charity of your choice or Tiger Baptist Church, 188 Bridge Creek Road, Tiger, Georgia 30576, in her memory.

Beck Funeral Home, in Clayton, Georgia, is in charge of the arrangements and is honored to serve the family of Suzanne (“Suzy”) Kersey Todd. If there are any questions, please call 706-782-9599. An online Memorial Register Book is available at www.beckfuneralhome.com.
