William Ernest Warner Obituary

William (Bill) Warner passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2022 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with his wife Myrna by his side.

Bill was born on Sept. 15, 1936 in Miami, Fl. He grew up in St. Petersburg, Fl. and graduated from St. Petersburg High School. He attended Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). He graduated with a degree in Industrial Management and spent his career years managing the Georgia branch of the family business, Airwick Professional Products of Georgia in Lake City, Georgia. While attending Georgia Tech Bill also served four years in the Naval Reserves.

After graduating from Georgia Tech Bill married the late Marilyn Antle Warner. They were blessed with three sons; Mark Kent Warner, the late Thomas Hamilton Warner and Alan Doyle Warner. On June 16, 1975 Bill and Myrna Jones Wells were married. Myrna and her late husband Eugene Wells were blessed with two sons; Oscar Eugene Wells, Jr., and Michael Bruce Wells. The marriage of Bill and Myrna created a loving family of seven, the parents and five sons.

Bill was a wonderfully tender, kind, and gentle man. He believed and practiced the principle that all mankind were worthy and were doing the best they could under their unique circumstances. He never judged, or found fault with another human being. Travel, sports, reading and music were favorite interests of Bill. During the early days of their marriage Bill and Myrna enjoyed travelling and visited many countries, often staying for weeks. They especially enjoyed visiting England, France, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand. They also took annual snow ski trips to Vermont or the western states.

Bill was very athletic and in his younger days enjoyed golf, tennis, scuba diving, hiking, camping, horseback riding, swimming, and snow skiing. After closing the family business he became a professional skier and was Ski Patrol Leader at Sky Valley, Georgia for a number of years. He and Myrna relocated for a period of time to California and Nevada to be able to enjoy a longer ski season. Bill received EMT training and became a professional Ski Patroller at the ski resort at Diamond Peak, Nevada. While living out west he performed in several snow skiing races and won a Bronze medal at Squaw Valley.

After moving back to their home in Sky Valley Bill worked both as an EMT in Rabun County, and for the Rabun County Sheriff’s Dept. as a jailer and courtroom bailiff. He carried a weapon only under protest and because it was a requirement. Bill later received his training to become a certified, licensed, Hypnotherapist, and had an office first in Tiger, Ga, and later in Clayton, Ga. During this time he wrote two books. His last years, after having a heart attack and several strokes, which caused him to suffer from vascular dementia, he and his wife Myrna spent most of their time quietly at home in Sky Valley, enjoying their common interests of reading, watching TV, and playing card and board games. They also enjoyed growing their own vegetables at the Old School Garden, Clayton, Ga. However, their greatest happiness and enjoyment were when they spent time with and visited their children and grandchildren in Atlanta, Ga. and Califon, NJ. Bill is survived by his devoted and loving wife Myrna of Sky Valley, Georgia; sons Oscar Eugene Wells, Jr. of Sky Valley, Ga. Mark Kent Warner and his wife Sally Warner; of Califon, NJ. Michael Bruce Wells and his wife Dr. Sandra Shumate, of Atlanta, Ga. and Alan Doyle Warner and his wife Kara Warner, of Tucker, Ga. six grandchildren, Alex Warner, Josh Warner, Eve Shumate, Sage Shumate, Kassie Rivers, Trey Thomason, and seven great grandchildren.
